Proverbs 10
Proverbs is always such an inspiring read for me. It holds powerful wisdom is the most practical applications. It’s not complicated or difficult to digest. The difficulty most times comes with putting ourselves aside and being obedient.
Proverbs chapter 10 drops a couple of bombs around making wise or foolish choices. And it warns about being a “prating” fool. Don’t stress and break out the dictionary, I looked it up, it means someone who talks excessively and pointlessly.
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.” Proverbs 10:19 NKJV
Did someone come to mind as you read that verse? Okay, put that aside it’s not the point here. Consider your own words! Are your words producing fruit in the people around you? Or are you a distraction and noise for them? Do you see the evidence of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness or faithfulness?
The definition goes on to describe this person as refusing to listen or learn.
Proverbs is very consistent with sharing promises or consequences. We have an everyday decision to make. And those choices come with a God promise or a consequence.
Check an example here:
“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.” Proverbs 10:4-5 NKJV
What can we learn from this? Wisdom is found in diligence…putting in the work…making an effort. The promise is richness or the consequence is becoming poor. And this may not be monetary, but could manifest in other areas.
Guided Prayer
Jesus help us daily to be mindful of your promises for us. Guard our words, let us be aware of the impact of our actions and words on those around us. Today let us choose to walk and operate in the fruit of the spirit. As we dive deeper in your word highlight to us your promises and the consequence of not following after you. Deepen our relationship with you everyday!
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:” Psalms 103:2 NKJV
