Day 3: The Wrong Price for the Wrong Reward

Scripture:
Ecclesiastes 2:10–11 – And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. 11 Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

Devotional:
Some men aren’t empty because they failed, they’re empty because they succeeded.
They worked hard. Built stability. Provided well. And still feel like something is missing.

The world rewards achievement but cannot satisfy the soul. Success without eternity eventually becomes a dead end. You can win outwardly and still feel hollow inwardly.

God never promised fulfillment through accomplishment. He promised an abundant life through surrender. When success becomes your source instead of your stewardship, it quietly drains you instead of filling you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What achievement in your life hasn’t delivered what it promised?
  2. How has success subtly shaped your priorities or identity?

Action Step:

  • Thank God for your accomplishments, then ask Him to realign your heart around what truly lasts.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the blessings I have. Thank you for the giftings you’ve trusted me with that have led to these blessings and success. Holy Spirit, remind me they don’t replace you. Convict me when I begin to turn to worldly success for fulfillment instead of you. Lord, recenter my heart on what matters most. Amen.
